Willie Grimes
Willie Ernest Grimes was born in Winterville, North Carolina, a rural eastern town in Pitt County just outside Greenville. He grew up in a close knit family with his four siblings. Willie and his brother, George, who was four years younger, were the two youngest children and were especially close. His parents, Joe and Ella, were farmers.

Scott Hall
Scott Hall was named for W. Kerr Scott, a governor of North Carolina. The residence hall was completed in 1951 at a cost of nearly $2 million, the largest sum appropriated to the University at that time. The red brick structure housed 1,100 male students and included 505 rooms and three apartments for faculty supervisors.

The Centennial Quilt
Common Roots: The North Carolina Agricultural and Technical Centennial Story quilt took almost three years to make, has fifty-nine colorful blocks depicting a variety of the events and people that figured prominently in the life of this great institution, and provided interesting and highly creative avenues of expression for the more than 100 persons who lent their talents as artists to design the blocks or as crafters to do the stitchery and quilting.

The A&T Four: February 1st, 1960
On February 1st, 1960 in Greensboro, North Carolina, four A&T freshmen students, Ezell Blair, Jr. (Jibreel Khazan), Franklin McCain, Joseph McNeil & David Richmond walked downtown and “sat - in” at the whites–only lunch counter at Woolworth’s. They refused to leave when denied service and stayed until the store closed.
