Abstract
George Simkins Jr. was a leader in civil rights activities in Greensboro, NC. He also served as president of the cities branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, from 1959-1984. He attacked segregated public facilities that often resulted in landmark Supreme Court cases. These include Gillespie Park Golf Course, Moses Cone Hospital, and Wesley Long Hospital court cases. The collection includes private papers, newspaper clippings, biographical information, family information, legal documents, information on integration of Gillespie Park Golf Course, Moses Cone Hospital, and Wesley Long Hospital. It also includes briefs, newspaper articles, and pictures about desegregation, civil rights events, and personalities.

George Simkins Jr. was a leader in civil rights activities in Greensboro, NC. He also served as president of the cities branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, from 1959-1984.
