Reserve Services For Students
 
F.D. Bluford Library Reserve Services is a unit of Access Services. The Reserve collection is housed on the first floor of Bluford Library. The collection consists of high usage items intended to meet the needs of specific students who have been assigned readings and/or special projects.
 
Reserve Room/Reserve Room Function
The purpose of Reserve Services is to collect and maintain course-related materials for student use. The following items are on reserve:
  • Books - Library owned or faculty members personal copy.
  • Copyrighted Photocopies - Library owned or faculty members' personal copy.
  • Non-copyrighted Photocopies - Instructor notes, tests, quizzes, etc...
  • CD-ROMs
  • CDs
  • Videos/DVDs
  • Floppy Discs
Using E-Reserves
E-Reserves can be accessed via the F.D. Bluford Library homepage: www.library.ncat.edu. The following is a step-by-step method for accessing E-Reserves:
  • Click on "Catalog"
  • Reserves can be accessed via the title of the work, the professor's name or the course prefix and number.
  • For example, Click on "Professor (Reserves)".
  • Type in the last name of the instructor, followed by his/her first name (ex: Smith,John).
  • This should bring you to a list of courses under the instructor's name, or one specific course under the instructor's name.
  • Click on the appropriate course.
  • E-Reserves are listed as "View or Print", followed by the title of the article. It's availability or non-availability should be listed under "Call#". "Electronic Copy Available" should also appear under "Format".
  • Click on the appropriate article.
  • In the first box, type in your first name, followed by your last name. In the second box, type in your Social Security number. Click "Submit".
  • The E-Reserve article should appear as a PDF file.
  • If you are having trouble accessing the E-Reserve article, contact the Access Services Department at 334-7617 or come by the front desk during regular library hours.
Checking Out Reserve Materials
The Reserve Room materials are checked out with a current validated North Carolina A&T State University Identification Card.
 
Loan Periods
The loan period for books that are a part of the reserve collection is indicated on an overlay located on the back of the book. The loan period for a personal photocopy is indicated on the inside front cover of the folder. The loan periods vary for each item on reserve: two (2) hours, overnight, three (3) days or one (1) week. The loan periods are set by the professor.
 
Fines & Fees
Reserve materials are subject to overdue fines:
  • Closed Reserve: $.50 per hour/item
  • Overnight Reserve: $.50 per hour/item
  • Three-Day Reserve: $.50 per day/item
  • One Week Reserve: $.50 per day/item
Please submit payment to the Cashier's Office located in the Dowdy Administration Building. A receipt of payment must be shown at the library's Access Services desk to clear a patron's account.
 
Other Information
For easy retrieval of reserve materials, the materials are presently classified by:
  • Library of Congress (LC Call Number) - Books are pulled from the circulation stacks and are shelved accordingly on the reserve shelves.
  • P/U (Personal Copy) - Personal books owned by faculty members. These books are shelved alphabetically by title on the reserve shelves.
  • P/P (Personal Photocopy) - Xeroxed materials that are submitted by teaching faculty. Materials are filed by faculty member's last name.
