F.D. Bluford Library is building a makerspace and is hiring four students to help us launch!

If starting a new makerspace that would serve the whole university sounds like fun, we would love to see your application.

Applications accepted on a rolling basis. We aim to have students begin work by the second week of classes in Spring 2022.

Graduate Positions (2)

Average hours per week: 20
Hourly wage: $15

Undergraduate Positions (2)

Average hours per week: 20
Hourly wage: $12

Responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming space for all students, faculty, staff and community members to create and make projects, items, prototypes, and crafts.
  • Assist with and teach workshops on how to safely use tools and techniques to design and create (content of workshops will vary based on student applicant background).
  • Collect data about the space under the supervision of the student success librarian.
  • Answer questions about where materials in the space can be found and how the tools and materials can be used safely and effectively.
  • Ensure users follow the rules of the space for their own safety and enjoyment and the safety & enjoyment of others. Record attendance/usage data and safety training completion records for people using the space and tools.
  • Communicate with the university community and create short social media, presentations, or instructional videos/photos about the creative spaces in the library.
  • Assist with and use pop-up and in-classroom creative kits to teach others about the creative opportunities available.
  • Ensure the physical integrity of the space, supervise its safe operation, and work evening and weekend hours as needed.

Qualifications

  • All majors and graduate fields of study are encouraged to apply, we are looking for creative people to share their hobbies, skills, and knowledge, and to learn more about creative and innovative new ways of thinking about and creating things.
  • Must be available to work up to 20 hours per week, including some evening and weekend hours.
