An Open Letter to the F.D. Bluford Library Team

Thank you to the F.D. Bluford Community for their outstanding achievements during this unprecedented time.

Dear Team Bluford,

With the end of the fall semester upon us, we want to express our deep gratitude for all your hard work this year. To us, employees of the F.D. Bluford Library of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University are true all-stars of the COVID-19 pandemic. We thank you for being adaptable and accessible as you delivered services and programs that enhanced student and faculty success.

Since March 2020, you carefully adjusted to the established safety guidelines and protocols that were implemented as the university returned to normal operations in phases. Although library hours were reduced and staff schedules modified, you adapted "can-do" attitudes and provided remote and in-person services with creativity, perseverance, and dedication.

This has been a year marked by many outstanding achievements by Bluford Library employees. Of note, you created several remote services to respond to customers' informational needs 24/7. Also, in collaboration with the Division of Information Technology Services, you implemented a Laptop Lending Program that offers enrolled students the availability to checkout laptops for academic support and success. This service has helped to mitigate the effects of the digital divide on the university's students.

While many universities across the United States had to close its doors to students amid COVID-19 outbreaks on campuses, N.C. A&T has been able to remain open. Those of you on the frontlines played an integral part in helping to make this happen as you engaged in various aspects of service (e.g., fixing computers and printers, enforcing safety measures, maintaining sanitized workspaces, delivering mail, making electronic resources accessible, promoting library services, processing resources, etc.).

At this time, we also wish to express our thanks and appreciation to the Security and Housekeeping personnel who work in the library and also to the Facilities personnel who regularly stock the library's sanitizing supplies. Every day they apply their knowledge and skills to ensure that Bluford Library can operate safely.

Team Bluford, we thank you immensely for your support of A&T's students and your commitment to their education and well-being. As you navigated through these extraordinary circumstances, time after time you represented the best of who Team Bluford can be. We appreciate your efforts beyond measure and recognize your value; you are valuable!
