Another useful feature of Innopac is the ability to locate individual short stories or plays. Let's say you want to know if the short story "Going to Meet the Man" by James Baldwin is in an anthology in your library's collection. You do a Keyword search. This is possible because Innopac searches the "Contents" field when doing a Keyword search. It is in the notes or content field that the title of short stories and plays in collections or anthologies may be listed. In a Keyword search, Innopac will highlight in red the keywords you typed in, so it is easy to tell if a record contains exactly what you are looking for. Searching Innopac
Truncation and Boolean Operators in Innopac
Innopac supports truncation. This means that if you type only the beginning letters of a word followed by an asterisk * , the system will locate records that include alternate endings for the root entered. For example, if you enter slave* , the system will retrieve records that include slavery, slaves, and slaveholder. This process allows you to broaden your search. You can also use Boolean operators AND, OR, NOT in searching Innopac.
It is important to remember that system designs vary. One may use * , and another may use ? for truncation. It is always a good idea to look at the "help" provided before you begin your search. Play with the system to see how it works!
