Personal Research Assistance (Individualized Instruction)

What is Individualized Instruction Program?
Individualized Instruction is designed to give students, faculty or staff an opportunity to have one-on-one instruction or consultation with a reference librarian for assistance in library research or overall library use. The librarian spends time discussing research strategies, showing relevant sources and demonstrating corrective use of these resources. You can also request a tour if you want to know where materials are located and learn more about other library services.

What isn't Individualized Instruction?
Individualized Instruction does not help in the actual mechanics of writing a paper for students. That assistance is available elsewhere, particularly through the English Department.
We Focus On Consultation, Library Research and Instruction.

How Much Time Does It Take?
The session takes thirty minutes per patron. However, we will spend more time if necessary.

What's the Difference Between Individualized Instruction and the Reference Desk?
Individualized Instruction gives the librarian a chance to answer your question(s) without interruption. It also allows the librarian time to prepare for your particular request before you come in for your scheduled appointment. However, if you do not have time for this type of appointment system, come to the Reference Desk and ask for help; we're always glad to help.
