Laptop Checkout Policies
 
Policies Governing Laptop Use
The University's Computing and Networking policy and the F.D. Bluford Library policy govern the use of the laptops in the checkout program.
 
Who Can Checkout Laptops?
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students are eligible to checkout a laptop computer. Although, Bluford Library extends library privileges to other individuals, they are not eligible to checkout laptop computers.
 
Laptop Configuration and Optional Accessories
IBM ThinkPad R31 laptops are available for checkout on a first come, first serve basis. Each laptop has an integrated wireless network card for network connectivity. Each laptop bag will contain a laptop with a 1.44MB floppy drive, a DVD drive, and a power adapter. 250MB zip drives, mice, and USB keyboards are optional accessories available for checkout on a first come, first serve basis. The software on each laptop includes Microsoft Office Professional (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), Microsoft FrontPage, Norton Anti-Virus, and Internet Explorer. Checkout Procedures
Each laptop and optional accessory is available on a first-come, first serve basis. Laptop reservations are not allowed.

An eligible person is ONLY allowed to check out one laptop at a time. A valid N.C. A&T ID is required to check out laptops. A laptop checkout agreement must be signed each semester by the user in order to check out a laptop. If you have any blocks on your library records you will NOT be able to borrow a laptop until the restrictions are cleared.
 
Loan Period
Laptops may be checked out for four (4) hours or for three (3) days. (Note: The clock on a laptop or the clock(s) in the library may not be accurate; therefore each user is responsible for making sure that the laptops are returned on time.) All accessories checked out during the checkout period are due at the end of the checkout period. Laptops checked out for four (4) hours are due back two (2) hours before the library closes. Laptops will not be checked out three (3) hours before the library closes.
 
Renewals
Renewals are not permitted for three (3) day checkouts. Laptops checked out for four (4) hours may be renewed for another four (4) hours only if another eligible person is not waiting to use one.
 
Ovedue, Replacement, and Processing Fees
A person will be charged a fee of $25.00 for each hour or any portion thereof that a laptop or accessory is overdue with a maximum fee assessment of $100.00. Grace periods are not allowed with checkout laptops. In addition to any applicable overdue fees, a replacement fee not to exceed $2100.00 along with a processing fee of $50.00 will be charged for a lost or damaged laptop and a replacement fee not to exceed $350.00 along with a processing fee of $15.00 will be charged for each damaged or lost accessory.
