Laptop Checkout Policies
 
POLICY STATEMENT
North Carolina A&T State University adopts a laptop checkout program annually for all currently enrolled students, faculty and staff at the university. This program provides an opportunity for the students, faculty, and staff to checkout a laptop for appropriate use in the Bluford Library.
 
ELIGIBILITY
  • Students currently enrolled at the university
  • Faculty and staff currently employed at the university
  •  
    HOURS OF OPERATION
  • Sunday: 2:00pm - 11:00pm
  • Monday - Thursday: 1:00pm - 10:00pm

    CHECKOUT PROCEDURES
  • Individuals must read, agree to, abide by, and sign the laptop checkout agreement.
  • Laptop reservations are not allowed.
  • Each laptop and optional accessories are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Students and faculty that are eligible are allowed to check out ONLY one laptop at a time.
  • A valid NC A&T ID is required to check out laptops.
  • Individuals that have a hold on their library account are ineligible to borrow a laptop until the restrictions are cleared.

    LOAN PERIOD
  • Laptops may be borrowed for a period up to four (4) hours. (Note: The clock on a laptop or the clock(s) in the library may not be accurate; therefore each user is responsible for making sure that the laptops are returned on time.)
  • Any laptop accessories checked out during the laptop checkout period are also due at the end of the laptop checkout period.
  • Laptop accessories will not be checked out unless the individual is also checking out a laptop.
  • Laptops (and any accessories) checked out for four (4) hours are due back two (2) hours before the library closes to allow adequate time for staff to inspect and ensure the equipment is intact and functioning properly.
  • Laptops will not be checked out less than three (3) hours before the library closes.

    RENEWALS
  • Laptops checked out for four (4) hours may be renewed for another four (4) hours only if another eligible individual is not waiting to use one.
  •  
    OVERDUE, REPLACEMENT, and PROCESSING FEES
  • Individuals will be charged a late fee of $25.00 for each hour or any portion thereof that a laptop or accessory is overdue, with a maximum late fee assessment up to the replacement cost of the laptop or $2,100.00, whichever is lower, and/or of the accessory (See table below for examples of accessory costs).
  • Grace periods are not allowed with checkout laptops or accessories.
  • If a laptop (and/or accessory) is lost or damaged, the individual who borrowed the laptop must report the loss or damage before the end of the checkout period, or be held liable for late fees in addition to replacement fees.
  • The damaged or lost laptop replacement fee shall not exceed $2,100.00.
  • The damaged or lost accessory fee shall not exceed the cost of the accessory.
  • In addition to any applicable overdue fees, a processing fee of $50.00 will be charged for a lost or damaged laptop and a processing fee of $15.00 will be charged for each damaged or lost accessory. (Note: Charges for replacement will depend on computer vendor and equipment models)
