Student Success Librarian Wins Emerging Leadership Recognition

Harvey Long was selected by the American Library Association (ALA) to participate in a leadership development program.

Harvey Long, Student Success Librarian at F.D. Bluford Library, received recognition for his leadership potential by being selected to participate in the Emerging Leaders program. ALA Emerging Leaders is a competitive, nationwide leadership development program where those just entering librarianship engage in professional development activities over a six-month period. Participants in the program will gain the support and training to serve the librarian field at a national level. Mr. Long was not only accepted into the program but he was also awarded a scholarship to attend.

Ms. Joanie Chavis, Mr. Long's supervisor, said of this achievement, “Harvey Long is the future of Academic Librarianship and this program will benefit from his participation. Harvey has... a cutting-edge skill set that F. D. Bluford benefits from on a regular basis. We are very proud he has joined this prestigious cohort!

Mr.Long has already made innovative contributions to F.D. Bluford Library with programs such as Thursday Tea with La-Donia Alford-Jefferies, the screening and discussion of Black Boys, and his ongoing grant project, the History of Redlining in Greensboro.

The library looks forward to how Mr. Long's professional development will advance his already excellent work as the Student Success Librarian and a leader at N.C. A&T State University.
